Mike and I have been wanting to attend a PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) for a long time. Ever since Twitch started broadcasting panels, we've been watching them online. PAX attendance is generally around, oh, 60,000+ people for each event, and there are three (Prime in Seattle, East in Boston, and Aus in Australia.) A fourth one was announced in a panel we attended...PAX South! In San Antonio TX!
Even though these events are huge, they're always sold out very very quickly. 12 hours quickly, with 3 day passes sold out in a matter of minutes, and single day passes for the rest of the time. Last year we were lucky enough to hit the purchase queue in time to get 3 day passes! We were (and still are, frankly) pretty chuffed with ourselves. The queue crashes every year--there have always been problems with the server/programs/whatever, so our previous attempts to get passes have been unsuccessful.
Now, this is a pretty big deal for us. This is the first time I have been further east than Minneapolis, our first real vacation, our first big convention. This is going to be the first in a set of posts on this big event.
